Work can get so demanding that it’s difficult to achieve a proper work-life balance. You could be working for a demanding boss who calls you even during unreasonable hours or during a holiday or perhaps you are working on your startup and forgot to rest. Whatever it is, it’s always important to make sure you keep your lifestyle in check to avoid burnout. Follow these 7 tips to achieve work-life balance.
How to Achieve Work-Life Balance
1. Time to Unplug
Technology has made tons of work and communication easier for us, but unfortunately, it also created the expectation that we are always reachable 24/7. Give yourself some time off by unplugging from your devices especially during family and personal time. There’s no need to rush answering emails just because you can easily access them, especially not after office hours.
2. Stop Being a Perfectionist
Trying to achieve perfection causes a lot of frustration. Sure, it may have been achievable during school days or when you had less responsibility in your hands. As you grow and responsibilities expand, making sure everything’s perfect is just impossible. Striving for excellence doesn’t necessarily mean striving for perfection Do the best you can with the time you have.
3. Learn to Say “No”

Knowing your limits and having good boundaries is crucial to having a balanced life. You don’t always have to say yes especially if it’s going to affect other areas of your life. Learn to refuse when you know it’s just going to give you more reasons to be stressed out with less gain.
4. Set Realistic Goals
Don’t try to do everything at once. Make sure the goals you are setting are manageable and realistic and won’t drive you off the wall just to achieve them. Plan and do things slowly and surely, and also anticipate possible problems and create Plan Bs.
5. Exercise Regularly

Look at the routine of highly successful people and you’ll see they have one thing in common: working out. Not only does working out benefit your muscles, it reduces stress as well. It also helps you break your bad habits such as smoking and unhealthy eating.

At the end of the day, look at all you’ve done throughout the day. Ask yourself these questions:
- What have you achieved?
- What did you do that was most productive?
- What were today’s time wasters or what among your activities did not add value to your goals?
Reflect on how you spend your time and cut out the things that are unproductive or simply does not add value to your life.
7. Don’t Be Afraid to Seek Help
You can’t always be a one-man show, it’s okay to ask someone for help. Whether it’s a work problem or a personal concern you need help with, don’t be afraid to ask for a helping hand. Ask a coworker to work with you on a big project. Call a friend if you need to vent some frustrations out. Genuinely happy people are those who are surrounded by a strong support system.
