The Venom movie (starring Tom Hardy!) is expected to be a huge hit, especially since it will be directed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. Superhero movies are one of the most hyped film genres in recent memory, and Venom is no exception. Fans do NOT want to miss one of Marvel’s most popular antiheroes coming to the big screen once it hits theaters on Oct. 5, 2018, Deadline reports.
The Venom movie plot is a heavily discussed topic by fans online, especially given the complicated history of Venom first as a villain, then an antihero, then an actual hero. The storyline has everyone’s curiosity piqued, and is sure to remain a secret up until the movie’s release. As one of Marvel’s biggest characters, it’ll be interesting to see how Venom will be received by moviegoers.
Venom Movie Not Connected To Spider-Man: Homecoming
They also note that Venom is from Sony’s Marvel Universe and is not a spinoff but the first movie after Spider-Man from its Marvel Universe of characters. In the film, like in the comic, Hardy’s Eddie Brock is able to converse and have a relationship with the symbiote, which culminates to him becoming Venom. In the Marvel Comics universe, Venom has appeared alongside Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Hulk, and many other Marvel Comics characters.
Venom was previously portrayed by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3. Sadly, that iteration can’t be forgotten quickly enough… Fans were definitely not satisfied with the comedic and small Grace being the supervillain, if only because Topher Grace didn’t have the traditional Venom build, since he was not a bodybuilder. Looking at Tom Hardy, fans finally get an actor who can portray a hulking Venom, even if based off of Hardy as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises, and his role as Tommy Conlon in Warrior, where he was just jacked.
How Will the Separation from Spiderman: Homecoming Affect The Venom Movie Plot?
For starters, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” will not be connected in any way with the Venom movie, so don’t expect any Easter eggs. The most popular fan theory circulating online right now is that this will be simply an origin story, with the alien from the movie “Life” is Venom from the Spider-Man series. However, this was debunked immediately by Sony. Also, Life director Daniel Espinosa, shut down the idea. Hence, a plot revolving Eddie Brock may be the most plausible theory at the moment. What’s interesting to consider is that this, technically, could be a supervillain movie, since Venom started off as a bad guy. However, given the “hero” aspect of all Marvel movies, we can expect some differences from the comics, giving us something closer to Deadpool, another antihero.
Ryan Reynolds Set to Join The Cast?
Speaking of Deadpool, there are rumors of Ryan Reynolds’ involvement in the movie. Although he is not part of the confirmed cast right now, but that could actually happen given Reynolds’ love for suiting up as everyone’s favorite chimichanga loving, merc with a mouth. And there has been some crossover between the two characters in the comics, so fingers crossed!
With all this in mind, it’ll be interesting to see how Sony will approach a superhero film with a supervillain as the lead. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is considered as one of the most comedic films of this decade but worked because Deadpool has such a quirky personality. Venom, on the other hand, comes from the other side of the spectrum and is considered as one of the most sinister villains of all-time — before crossing over into the hero space. Does this mean the film will get a darker treatment?
Given Hardy’s impressive resume including an award-winning role in “Mad Max: Road Fury,” fans can expect the actor to give justice to the special role. Moreover, he confirmed he is a big fan of the anti-hero and his role in “Mad Max” somehow resembles the craziness this character requires. The biggest question, for now, would be, will this pave way for the character to making big appearances in future MCU films? Only time will tell.
With the Venom movie confirmed as a standalone flick, here are suggestions on how Sony can make the film work.
