The iPhone 8 is one of the most anticipated gadgets to come out this year. Despite the tons of speculations, leaks, and analysts’ expectations, this latest Apple flagship smartphone remains to be a mystery. But if there’s one thing everyone can agree on, iPhone 8 intends to set the latest standard in mobile technology.
Get Excited About These iPhone 8 Features
1. The new iPhone 8 will be featuring a slick, fancy display.
— TechnoBuffalo (@TechnoBuffalo) July 26, 2017
Multiple reports are saying Apple will be outfitting the iPhone 8 with a new curved, edge-to edge OLED display. The new display will supposedly offer a brighter, more vivid phone display.
The improved display is largely credited to its True Tone technology and Ion-X glass. For comparison, the iPhone 8 screen is said to be substantially better than iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus.
2. The iPhone 8 Apple display will also feature a lot of technical enhancements.
Virtual home button with integrated Touch ID, anyone? The new display is reportedly bezel-less, with the usual display features either relocated somewhere or embedded on the screen. This means the front-face camera, earpiece, and the Home button, which is usually placed at the top and lower bezels of the smartphone, may take a different shape or form on the iPhone 8.
It has been speculated that owners will be powering up and unlock their iPhone 8 phones via iris scanning or facial recognition. This rumor is based on an interpretation of a patent application Apple filed in early July.
3. Apple is reportedly bringing augmented reality on the iPhone 8.
Augmented reality or AR may seem to be a technology too large to be done or played with on a smartphone. Based on Apple’s latest public demo at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year, the company is eyeing to make it happen with the iPhone 8. For iPhone 8, it is anticipated the smartphone will feature rear-facing 3D laser for enhanced depth perception.
How will this iPhone 8 specification benefit the average user? AR has already made a difference in the way people play video games. Experts believe ordinary people can benefit from AR graphics once placed in their field of vision. For example, a tourist who wishes to know the nearest subway can take visual directions from his line of sight using AR. AR can also help someone to call or message a friend without needing to physically use the mobile phone.
4. The iPhone 8 will be on iOS 11.
— Hungry For New (@hungryfornew) July 27, 2017
The iOS 11 beta debuted more than a month ago. The beta teased what fans should be expecting on iPhone 8 in terms of what it can do and the improvements it can do on its existing features.
It would be exciting to see the same beta improvements on the iPhone 8. Currently, the iOS 11 beta allows iPad owners to multitask with ease via the app dock and take photos in new camera modes. The beta also brought in a smarter Siri. In addition, you should look out for the ARKit, tool developers and curious owners can use to create AR graphics on the iPhone 8.
5. Apple’s A11 will be the next-generation processor powering iPhone 8.
— Android Rival (@Android_Rival) July 25, 2017
According to supply chain insiders, production of the A11 has begun and is expected to power the flagship smartphone. A11 will reportedly succeed Apple’s A10 Fusion processor.
Jonny Evans for Computerworld said the new chip is more powerful of its kind and will use less battery juice as compared to its predecessor. To put things in perspective, the 64-bit 16 nanometer A10 processor provides 40 percent greater CPU performance and 50 percent better graphics performance as compared to the A9 chip. The new A11 is on 10-nanometer technology and is expected to provide the same performance at 20 percent speed gain and 40 percent power reduction.
6. No more Apple charging cords with the iPhone 8.
For a company known for producing good quality products, the company has yet to perfect its breakable Apple proprietary cables. For the iPhone 8, Apple appears to resolve this issue via outfitting the flagship smartphone with a wireless charging capability.
A new leaked photo has since backed up this iPhone speculation. In the link, the unit has a coil reportedly for inductive wireless charging so iPhone 8 owners can charge their units a la Apple Watch style. It also appears the company will still keep the Lightning cord plugin so owners can charge the iPhone via cable cord.
7. You can take DSLR-like photos using the iPhone 8
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said new dual-camera iPhone models this year will have dual optical image stabilization. According to him, the improvements will help improve photo quality and optical zoom range. The improvements primarily focus on redesigning the iPhone’s telephoto lens to give support to the camera’s existing auto focus feature.
