Hair trends come and go. We think we’ve seen them all: mullets, afros, and yes, mohawks as well. The 21st century has produced its share of hair trends, with a few that looks to be around for a while. Check out this list, and perhaps try some out yourself!
Popular Hair Trends For Men
1. The Man Bun
The man bun came out sometime in the 2010s. It opened up a whole new world for men who want to keep their hair long with minimal effort to style. Grow your hair to mid-length, and then keep it in a bun (much like how your librarian used to) This hair trend is still in, especially among the beard-wearing crowd.
2. The Fade
Simple and stylish, the fade is one of those hair trends that seems to stick because of functionality. It’s short enough to be good for the office but cool enough to take to the bar. There’s quite a number of styles people can play with when it comes to the fade. It’s also a good choice for plus-size men to look sharper. There’s no question this one will hold out for quite a few more years.
Much like the fade, the undercut is one of the most functional and stylish hair trends. The difference lies in how short the sides are cut. The barber usually sets the clipper to its shortest setting and just buzzes away most of the sides, giving a fresh, clean look. It looks badass but is still good enough to wear to a meeting.
Samurais they are not. The topknot belongs in this list of hair trends for being so popular despite the rather negative response it gets from people. It’s as if the man bun and the undercut had a love child. Mid-length hair buzzed sides, then tied up in a fancy topknot at the back. Seems like we won’t be rid of this anytime soon!
5. Fade + Hair Design
They say nothing says “hood” more than a haircut with streaks pushing out from it. The classic fade combined with a barber’s skilled hands can produce wonderful results, but this is one of those hair trends that becomes a hit or miss situation. Depending on your barber’s skill, you could walk out with a cool party haircut or a few weeks of regret. Regardless, this hairstyle is so widely popular, it seems like it’ll be here for a while.
If you’re looking for a hairstyle that makes you feel like it’s the 80s, but still keeping you in the 2010s, this hair trend is for you. Far from the old-school pompadours that are huge and require a long time to pomade up, the new pompadour combines the fade with a bit of hair wax and some quick brush-ups. Perfect for weddings or the club. Try it out for yourself!
7. Medium-Length Hair
Medium length hair has been around for a long time, but there’s a reason why this hair trend survives: it can make a man look damn beautiful. Pair it with a goatee ala-Dave Grohl and keep it nice and moisturized to keep it looking nice and flowy. Trust me, you’ll look great in it.
8. Messy Fade
In a world filled with so many hair trends, there’s got to be one one for guys too lazy to comb, right? The messy fade is here for you. It’s pretty much the basic fade, but with a lot less styling. This saves you a lot of money, never needing pomade or hair wax… or even a comb. Just brush it up with your hand and you’re right on the money.
9. The New Mohawk
Nope, no need to look like a Navajo warrior to wear this hair trend. The new mohawk (affectionately known as the faux-hawk) has been around since the early 00s and still exists to this day. Get an undercut and crop the top part of your hair a bit, then spike it up slightly with some pomade and a bit of brushing. This is the perfect hairstyle when you’re heading up to a concert or a night out in the town.
Rock the classic nice-boy look with this hair trend. The preppy haircut has become indispensable to suit-wearing yuppies, but it damn sure works with a clean-shaven man. It’s clean enough to make you look really nice, but not too clean to make you look like you don’t know how to party. Perfect hair to wear with minimalist business casual. You might need a bit more pomade than usual, however!
11. Medium-Length Curls + Fade
Curly-haired dudes rejoice – there’s a way to show off those lovely locks without being too shaggy! Of all the hair trends, this one looks like the coolest to me. Grow your curls to medium-length and get a fade. It’s pretty effortless (depending of course on how cooperative your curls are) and looks pretty damn suave. It gives off a playful, boyish vibe, but the fade makes it look more professional and mature.

Many hair trends come and go on a yearly basis, but these ones look like they’re here to stay for quite some time. No matter what you choose, however, make sure it fits you well. Consult with your barber first before doing anything, or you might make a decision you’ll regret – at least for a few weeks.
