Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has confirmed the band will now consist of six members. Wallflowers pianist Rami Jaffe is officially named a member after 12 years, Diffuser.com reports.
This has been confirmed in an interview with Beats 1 and this announcement is more like a formality considering that Jaffe has been collaborating with the band since the release of the album, In Your Honor, back in 2005. It will be interesting to see how he will impact the band and take them to greater heights now that he’s officially a part of the team.
Foo Fighters Welcomes New Member | New Album Imminent?
In an interview on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show following the surprise release of the Foo Fighters’ single and video “Run.” “You know, it’s just so easy when the five of us, six of us now, get together,” Grohl said, before Lowe interrupted, “That’s official by the way?” Grohl responded, “Who, Rami? Rami’s been in for 14 years or something, it’s been awhile.”
It’s pretty amazing how the band’s music has evolved through the years. Grohl started as a one-man band when he made the first album and members used to come and go when the succeeding albums were released.
Why Jaffee Joining the Foo Fighters is a Huge Deal

Dave Grohl is known for maintaining particularly high standards for the band, for everything from practices to recording sessions to live concerts. That’s part of the reason behind the departures of former drummer William Goldsmith and guitarist Franz Stahl.
Goldsmith was in the band from 1995-97 but had to leave after feeling betrayed when Grohl re-recorded his drum parts in “The Colour and the Shape.” Stahl meanwhile, was a former bandmate of Grohl’s in Scream, but the chemistry was simply not there anymore. This means that Jaffe fits the bill as he understands the “Foo Fighters” brand of music very well, and already knows what he’s getting himself into after working with the Foo for more than a decade.
Can Fans Expect a Foo Fighters New Album Tour?
With regards to a new Foo Fighters album, the band has yet to confirm or announce a release date. Looking back at their previous album launches, a few singles were released before the EP made its debut. Now, the band has released two songs in two consecutive weeks. Given Foo Fighters’ proclivity for recording, a new album is a definite possibility.

Foo Fighters’ previous album, Sonic Highways, includes eight songs inspired by the musical history of eight cities in the United States. Fans are probably wondering what served as the band’s inspiration this time around. One thing is for sure, though; Grohl will once again touch the hearts of many once the album is out. For those who have yet to get a glimpse on “Run,” check it out below. The music video suggests when it comes to Rock N’ Roll, there is no such thing as getting old.
